Ruby was so pissed off that she skipped dinner.
Oscar rolled out in his wheelchair and saw her fuming. His tone was calm. “Still upset over the company?
“Seeing me like this–does it make you feel good?”
Ruby shot him a cold, sarcastic glare.
She had no warmth left for him.
Oscar rested his hands on his knees , still composed.
“You chose me, didn’t you? Because I was closest to the power you wanted.
“But you didn’t realize that this family, this company… they’re a damn minefield. Just keeping up with them drains you.
“You finally found a way to climb higher. But it’s out of reach, isn’t it?”
Oscar had been married before.
But even if he had married 12 times, the Nolan name was still enough to draw women like moths to flame.
At first, Oscar had no intention of remarrying.
But that was when Ruby showed up–fresh out of grad school and saddled with family debt.
He had only gone abroad for business.
And there she was, selling herself for a high price.
He bought her freedom out of pity.
No one expected her personality to mirror his late wife’s so closely.

He actually admired capable women.
But not women who wanted him dead.
Seeing him finally drop the mask, Ruby glanced at his legs.
“So, judging by your tone, you’ve recovered a lot, haven’t you?”
Oscar smiled. “Aren’t you sharp?”
Then he pressed his hands against the arms of the wheelchair–and slowly stood up.
His condition had started from a cerebral hemorrhage, which left his body stiff and sluggish.
But recently, he’d been taking the pills Alice gave him.
Ruby hadn’t trusted those mystery pills.
Oscar didn’t care.
At the time, Ruby was drowning in fashion department chaos.
She couldn’t bother with anything else.
To her, Oscar’s brain damage had lasted so many years. Even if he was lucid now, who knew how long it would last?
And besides, they were just pills. Hospitals had tons of them, and they never worked.
But now, Oscar wasn’t just clear–headed.
He was healing.
“Oscar, you—”
Ruby’s face was full of shock.
But after all those years holding power in Nolan Group, her heart was as hard as iron.
The innocent girl she used to be was long gone.
She gave a bitter laugh.
“So now you’re here to help your son take everything from me?”
Oscar didn’t flinch.
“You picked this daughter–in–law.”
She knew from the start it was a proxy marriage yet still went along with it out of her own selfish goals. She let Alice marry in.

Ruby’s expression held no guilt, no fear.
“So what? She’s just a girl. I never took her seriously.”
So what if she had hacker skills and knew a little medicine?
She was still too green.
The business world didn’t care about talent–it respected endurance.
Oscar didn’t want to argue.
He walked over and poured a glass of water.
“Let’s talk about us.”
Ruby accepted the glass.
She took a sip.
“The last time you poured me water… was our tenth wedding anniversary.”
Oscar calmly poured himself a glass.
“Don’t get it twisted. I just enjoy the gentleman routine.”
Ruby nearly hurled the glass at his face.
The next day.
Global Hotel released an official statement.
James only got that penthouse deal because he used a promotional discount.
His stay had nothing to do with Nolan Group.
Global Hotel even clarified.
James’s team included 20 people, and they used a group–buy package.
