Halsey deliberately lifted her hand to show him her bare wrist.
Shaun blinked in surprise. “What did you say? I bought Elise a diamond bracelet?”
“Yeah. That bracelet must be pretty expensive. I didn’t expect you to be so generous.”
Shaun was speechless. “I don’t know anything about a diamond bracelet. Who told you I bought her one?”
Halsey stared at him. What did he mean? Didn’t he buy Elise that bracelet? How could that be?
“You can be honest with me,” Halsey said firmly. “Why would you lie about a bracelet?”
“I’m being honest. I didn’t buy it, so why would I admit it? Listen carefully-I have never bought Elise any bracelet.”
Halsey was stunned. She studied Shaun’s face, trying to find any sign of a lie. His handsome face showed no emotion at all-it was calm and composed. He was telling the truth.
What was going on?
“Are you staring at me because you don’t believe me? Did Elise tell you this? I’ll call her right now and ask her in person.”
With that, Shaun pulled out his phone and called Elise. “Come to the villa immediately.”
He actually called her over.
Halsey said, “You didn’t need to call her over…”
Shaun tightened his arm around her waist, a faint smile on his lips. “You don’t like me buying diamond bracelets for others, so I
have to make sure.”
“I don’t mind. You’re rich. You can buy diamond bracelets for whoever you want.”
“You don’t mind? Whoever minds is a rotten egg, then!”
Was he calling her a rotten egg?
Halsey shot him a glare, thinking HE was the rotten egg.
Meanwhile, Elise hurried over as fast as she could.
She had planned to leave the bar and go home, feeling embarrassed after the big scene earlier. On the way, she got Shaun’s call telling her to come to the villa.
Elise felt like she had come back to life. Shaun was calling her to the villa at this hour? Could it be…
Her heart raced with excitement, wondering what might happen tonight.
She rang the doorbell, and the maid quickly opened the door.
“Hi,” Elise said, “Mr. Lane called me to come over. Where is he now?”
“He’s in the bedroom upstairs. Please, come in.”
“Okay, I’m going to find him now.”
Elise went upstairs to the door of the room. She straightened her makeup and outfit, wanting to look perfect and stunning when she saw Shaun.
She knocked gently. “Mr. Lane, it’s me.”
Shaun’s voice came from inside. “Come in.”
Elise turned the doorknob and pushed the door open. “Why-”
Her voice faltered when she saw Shaun holding Halsey in a close embrace. They looked so intimate.
Elise froze by the doorway. Her earlier fantasies shattered in an instant.
What was going on? Why was Shaun holding Halsey?
Should she just leave?
Halsey reached out and pushed Shaun. “Your secretary is here. Now let me go!”
