Chapter 906
Madeline truly did care about Halsey and Shaun, so much that she gave her honest, heartfelt commentary.
Halsey put down her utensils, leaned over, and covered Madeline’s mouth with her hand.
“Please stop. I’m begging you.”
Shaun looked at Halsey’s flushed cheeks and Madeline’s smug, cheerful grin. The corners of his lips tugged upward in a rare
smile.
That night, Halsey and Madeline shared a room, while Shaun slept in the guest room. The next morning, he headed straight to
the office.
Shaun sat in his office as usual when Martin came in and placed a folder beside him. “Mr. Lane, this is the itinerary for this
afternoon.”
Shaun continued flipping through a document, pen gliding across the page without pause. He didn’t look up as he gave an order. “Cancel everything after 6:00 PM tonight.”
“Is that for your dinner date?” Martin asked.
Shaun nodded. “Is the restaurant booked?”
“Yes, everything’s arranged,” Martin replied. He then hesitated and asked cautiously, “Is this a candlelight dinner with Ms. Mallin?”
Shaun raised an eyebrow. “Who else do you think it could be?”
Martin didn’t dare answer that. Everyone in the company could see it clearly-Shaun loved Halsey, to the point where he handled her like the greatest treasure in his life. He was completely smitten by her.
By late afternoon, Shaun had finished up his work. At exactly 5:00 PM, he stood and walked to the mirror.
He studied his reflection for a moment, then reached up to adjust his hair.
Just then, Warren walked in. “You already look good.”
Shaun smoothed his jacket.
Warren glanced at him. “Martin told me you’ve got a dinner reservation at 6:00 PM. Is it a date?”
Shaun didn’t deny it.
“With Ms. Mallin?” Warren asked.
“Yes,” Shaun replied simply.
Warren’s face darkened a little. “Did you forget how she dumped you? She said you were ugly. It hasn’t even been that long, and you’ve already forgotten?”
Shaun looked back at him. “But she says I’m handsome now. Isn’t that enough?”
Warren was speechless. Shaun was clearly deep in this; it was top-tier lovestruck behavior.
Warren tried again. “Look at what you’re doing. Have a little self-respect! She didn’t want you before, and now you’re running right back to her. What are you even thinking?”
Shaun looked him in the eye. “She said she’s into me.”

Warren blinked. “What?”
“Last night, she told me she was into me,” Shaun said quietly. “I asked her how much. She said very. I wanted to be angry, to resent her, but how could I? She said she’s into me. Don’t you get it? She said she’s very into me.”
Warren had no words-he didn’t get it.
Shaun kept going. “I tried to be tough. I thought of a hundred ways to punish her-ignore her and never take her back, not even if she came crawling. But I couldn’t do it. I really couldn’t.
“If she’s there, I keep looking at her. If she’s gone, I keep thinking about her. My mind and heart are full of her. I can’t remember a word of what she said when she rejected me. But when she said she was into me? That’s stuck in my head.
“I’m not ugly anymore, right? As long as she’s into the good-looking guy I am now, isn’t that enough? Why keep holding on to the past?”
