Chapter 894
Chapter 896
Halsey’s face turned bright red, her breath quick and uneven. “Shaun…”
Shaun’s voice came out hoarse as he murmured, “Chelsea…”
He called out Chelsea’s name.
Halsey felt like someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over her head. The chill went straight to her bones.
So he thought she was Chelsea? Had they already slept together?
Chelsea did say that they were getting married soon. So… Had they already been intimate?
Halsey felt like her heart had been torn right open. Her eyes, normally pale and calm, were now bloodshot with pain. She shoved Shaun off her and bolted into the bedroom.
She slammed the door shut and leaned back against it, slowly sliding down to the floor.
Wrapping her arms around herself, she sat there as big, hot tears rolled down her cheeks, one after another like a broken string of pearls.
Her chest ached so badly.
So this was what it felt like-hearing the man you love whisper another woman’s name in your ear.
Halsey didn’t dare cry out loud, but her shoulders shook with silent sobs.
Meanwhile, on the couch outside, Shaun was still lying down. He raised an arm to cover his eyes, trying to hide the fire that still hadn’t cooled in them.
He wanted her badly.
His Adam’s apple bobbed hard. He opened his eyes and stared blankly at the ceiling above him.
No one knew what was going through his mind. After a while, he gave a soft, bitter laugh-self -mocking, full of emptiness.
Halsey didn’t fall asleep until very late, so she overslept the next morning.
Madeline had to wake her up. “Halsey.”
Halsey sat up groggily. “How are you feeling?”
She reached out to touch Madeline’s forehead. The fever had gone down, though there was

still a bit of lingering warmth.
Madeline looked much better today-her color had returned, and she was slowly regaining her energy. “I feel a lot better now. But… What happened to you? Your eyes are swollen.”
Halsey had definitely cried too much last night. Her eyes were red and puffy.
“Probably because I didn’t sleep well,” Halsey replied. “I’ll put a warm towel on them.”
She went into the bathroom and pressed a hot towel gently over her eyes.
Madeline said, “Shaun made breakfast already. Eat something before you go back to sleep.”
Just hearing Shaun’s name made Halsey uneasy again, as she felt a twinge in her chest. But life had to go on, and she couldn’t let Madeline see what she was feeling..
She forced a smile. “Okay.”
After ten minutes with the warm towel, the swelling had gone down. Halsey got dressed and went out with Madeline.
Shaun wore a white button-up and black pants. He placed a glass of milk on the table while telling the girls, “Come eat.”
He looked completely calm, like nothing had happened the night before.
Halsey wanted to act like nothing had happened as well, but she still felt awkward. “I’ll go grab the utensils from the kitchen.”
She spun around to leave, but Shaun moved at the same time. Before she knew it, she had walked straight into his chest.
Startled, she looked up and met his eyes. As soon as she saw him staring back, Halsey stiffened.
Madeline let out a dramatic laugh. “Gosh, get a room! I’m way too young for this kind of scene!”
She threw her hands over her eyes in mock horror.
“But don’t mind me. I didn’t see a thing. Carry on!”
Halsey’s face turned bright red-she couldn’t come up with a single word to say.
