Since both Halsey and Bella were girls , Shaum politely stepped out of the room after bringing them inside .
Halsey adjusted Bella’s clothies and said , “ Come in . ”
Shaum walked back in .
Bella grinned . “ Is Shaun sleeping with us tonight ? ”
Halsey shook her head . “ Of course not . ”
“ Why not ? ” Bella asked .
Halsey kissed her cheek . “ Because you’re a girl , and girls shouldn’t sleep with any man except their daddy . It’s a private rule for us girls . ”
Bella nodded , though not fully understanding . “ Mommy taught me that , too . ”
Halsey handed Shaun a storybook . “ I’m going to shower . You read Bella a story . ”
Shaun took the book . “ Got it . ”
As Halsey headed to the bathroom , she glanced back . Bella was tucked in bed , while Shaun lounged against the headboard , reading to her in his deep , smooth voice . He was surprisingly good at telling fairy tales .
And he was so patient with kids .
A small smile curved Halsey’s lips before she disappeared into the shower . By the time she came out , Bella was fast asleep .
“ She’s out ? ” Halsey whispered .
Shaun set the book aside and pulled the blanket over the little girl . Yeah , sound asleep . ”
Halsey towel – dried her damp hair . “ Well , you can head to the guest room now . ”
Shaun grabbed her wrist and tugged her down onto his lap . “ Are you kicking me out ? ”
“ Obviously , ” she said .
“ Can I stay here tonight ? I’ll take the couch . ”
Halsey raised an eyebrow . “ You’d rather sleep on the couch than a real bed ? ”
“ Because you’re here . ”
He kissed her .
Halsey pressed a hand over his mouth . “ No. Bella’s right there . ”
Shaun’s gaze burned into her . “ Then don’t make a sound . ”
Before she could protest , his lips captured hers in a deep , dizzying kiss that left her breathless . Then , in one swift motion , he scooped her up into his arms .
“ Where are we going ? ” she gasped .
“ I still need a shower . Keep me company . ”
He carried her into the bathroom . Halsey had already washed up , but Shaun pinned her against the wall , his mouth claiming hers again .
“ Shaun , no , ” she protested weakly .
