Wendy hesitated for a moment , then opened the door and let Stanley in .
They moved to the living room , where Stanley reached out and gently took hold of Wendy’s arm . “ Are you angry at me ? ”
Her expression was cold . “ I’m not . ”
Stanley raised an eyebrow . “ But you look angry . You waited for me all day at the courthouse , didn’t you ? And I didn’t show up . That’s why you’re angry . ”
Inside , Stanley felt pleased . Wendy being angry at him meant she still cared , that she loved him deeply .
Despite all the years and hardships , their hearts had never truly drifted apart .
Wendy looked at Stanley . “ Do you find this funny ? Do you enjoy toying with
me like this ? ”
Stanley shook his head . “ I’m not playing games . I had my reasons for not going to the courthouse that day . ‘
“ What reasons ? Tell me . ”
Stanley paused , unsure how to explain , as he still hadn’t figured out the full truth himself .
His silence only made Wendy angrier . “ If you have nothing to say , then you can leave now . ”
She began gathering her things .
That was when Stanley noticed something on the table . He quickly picked it up .
