Chapter 253
First, the greetings, and now even the song—intended for a proposal—was completely wrong. And what was with the lights suddenly dimming and the cake being wheeled in? It all seemed orchestrated for a birthday party.
It certainly didn’t look like a proposal scene at all.
Confusion clouded Madisyn’s thoughts. “Is… it actually someone’s birthday today?”
Belinda exhaled deeply, closing her eyes. “Maybe it’s for my birthday.”
Madisyn’s eyes widened even further in surprise.
After a moment, it dawned on her, and she smacked her forehead. “Of course! Your official birthday is today, isn’t it?”
Despite knowing Belinda for years and celebrating her real birthday, the date on her identity documents had slipped Madisyn’s mind until now.
As Madisyn mulled over this, she couldn’t help but furrow her brows. “If Kristopher is indeed throwing a birthday party for you, then this is completely ridiculous…”
The meticulous planning and setup for the birthday event were commendable… However, the mix-up with the date was inexcusable!
Having been married to Belinda for three years, Kristopher should have known her well enough. If he truly cared for her, such a mistake would be unthinkable, right?
And considering they were now divorced, why would he even think about hosting a birthday party for his ex-wife?
“Wrong, all wrong!” In the midst of the confusion, Maggie couldn’t contain herself and blurted out loudly.
As she yelled, Maggie hurriedly instructed someone to illuminate the venue. “Marc, what on earth are you up to? It’s all a mess!” With her command, the lights abruptly flooded the space.
Flustered, Maggie dashed toward Marc, skirt in hand. She jabbed a finger in his direction and berated him. “What the hell are you doing? You’ve turned the event announcements into birthday wishes, which is absurd enough. And now a birthday song? Who plays a birthday song during a marriage proposal? Have all the assistants lost their minds?”
Marc looked at her, baffled. “Miss Cox, I’m lost. What are you referring to? What proposal?” His confusion was palpable. “Wasn’t today supposed to be a celebration of Belinda’s birthday?”
“I’m telling you, this is all wrong!” Maggie’s cheeks blazed red with fury. She turned her head and glared at Kristopher. “Kristopher, look at what your assistant has done!”
“Just stay calm, Maggie.” Before Kristopher could utter another word, Cathy intervened.
Her face betrayed a touch of anxiety, but her voice remained soothing. With reporters broadcasting live, she had to project a serene and polished demeanor despite her annoyance. “Marc is probably overwhelmed with his duties. A slip-up is understandable. Don’t be too angry. I’m not bothered by it.”
With that, she turned gracefully to Kristopher, standing just behind her. “Kristopher, even though Marc slipped up, it’s not his fault. I’m not upset about the mix-up with the venue and the introductions.”
“Cathy, what are you talking about?” Kristopher’s brow creased in bewilderment as he gazed at Cathy. “Marc didn’t mess up.”
