With this in mind, he quickly tried to soothe her, got out of the driver’s seat, and opened the passenger door, signaling to Belinda to take over the driving.
It appeared he would spend the journey comforting Cathy.
Belinda slid out of the car, then climbed into the driver’s seat and started the engine.
“We’re in the car, and it’s too cramped to avoid overhearing,” Kristopher explained. “Cathy, how could I let someone else hear our conversation? It was truly just a coincidence…”
As the car pulled away, Kristopher took his place in the passenger seat and continued to patiently comfort the emotionally unstable Cathy.
While they were stopped at a traffic light, Belinda turned to observe the man beside her in the passenger seat. His tone was gentle as he spoke to Cathy on the phone — a gentleness she hadn’t witnessed in the three years she had known him.
“Okay, okay, I’ll buy you flowers,” Kristopher said softly into the phone. After a brief pause, he asked in a low and soft voice, “What kind of flowers do you want? Okay, let me ask her.”
Once he ended the call, Kristopher faced Belinda again and asked, “Do you know much about flowers?”
He stowed his phone away and added nonchalantly, “Let’s go pick out a bouquet to apologize to Cathy.”
“Apologize?”
Belinda stared at Kristopher, her expression one of utter disbelief.
She never thought that he would apologize.
Historically, Kristopher had never backed down from an argument, whether it was with her or his grandfather. He always stood firm, never conceding he was wrong.
Each time, Belinda and Anthony were the ones to reach out and make peace, easing the strain in their relationship just a bit.
Thus, she had always believed Kristopher was the type of man who would never acknowledge his mistakes.
But she never imagined that Kristopher, usually so aloof and unyielding, would buy flowers for Cathy and offer an apology. What was more, he did this merely because Cathy thought he had intentionally put their conversation on speakerphone.
“Is there something on my face?”
Noticing Belinda’s gaze, Kristopher frowned and instinctively touched his face.
That was when Belinda came back to her senses.
By then, the traffic light had turned green.
She pressed the accelerator and kept her eyes on the road. “I never thought you’d one day openly acknowledge your mistake and realize that girls appreciate flowers.”
Previously, every time Kristopher got flowers for her, it was because Anthony had pressured him.
Kristopher would always remark impatiently that she was quite the bother.
