Selene POV
One of the things I’ve realized about dying younger than expected is how you want to keep everything in order before leaving. I was four months gone with the baby, judging rightly, I had only 5 months left to live and I wasn’t going to die with unsolved disputes.
Since the last incident regarding Maeve and Vina, I hadn’t bothered to step a foot into the school again. I let their nanny take them to school and pick them up when they were done but this was going to be their school in the long run and I must make sure I don’t give any of the parents a chance to treat my children badly when I’m not here.
“Luna!” the principal walked towards me, a huge smile on her face. Last time she had stood by while the other woman accused me of changing husbands like clothes and for the longest time, I had refused to honor any invites for any school function but I didn’t fail to pump in money into any of their project. “I didn’t believe you were going to show up. This is a pleasant surprise,” she enthused.
“Really!” I scoffed “Am I late? Has the event begun already?”
“Not yet, your majesty. We were waiting for your arrival. His majesty is here also. I’m sure he’ll be surprised to see you too,”.
“Oh!” I tried to hide the shock in my eyes as she led me in the direction of the hall. As I passed, I could hear women murmuring and pointing at me. Some of them didn’t have the decency to hide the jealousy in their eyes. Noah as usual, was in the midst of some Alpha talking, gesturing and nodding at what they were saying.
For a minute, I stood admiring him. At least, the moon goddess has been faithful in her words. He was healthier than before and the doctors had said the tumor was there but had shrunk completely. But after I take his place, then he’ll be healed. These past few months, our marriage was nothing but pure bliss.
There was peace in the pack, the girls were doing well and they were growing so fond of Noah now that they don’t bug me about visiting their father anymore. I’ve not heard from Xavier since our last conversation but I couldn’t help but be uncomfortable. I was used to dealing with so much trauma in my life that I didn’t know how to sit and enjoy peace.
Suddenly, Noah raised his face and our eyes met. His widened with surprise and immediately he whispered something to the men around him before he started towards me. There was a pleasant surprise on his face as well as confusion as he approached me.
“Babe!” he kissed my cheek “Am I the luckiest man on earth or what? Seeing you more than once a day?”
“You I chuckled loving the way his hand circled my waist as he pulled me close “I wanted to attend this meeting, it’s being a while and I’ve donated enough money to the school, recently. It’s only right that I come. Don’t you think?”
“You deserve to have every door opened to you my darling,” he murmured, his breath fanning my lips “And I wish we were alone right now… you look so fine,”.
I laughed, not bothering to ask him to behave himself. It was not a new thing for us to show our PDA in the public. It was a taboo considering we were supposed to be examples but we loved each other and I wasn’t going to spend every last second of my life allowing myself to be controlled by stupid traditions.
The host – The principal climbed onstage calling our attention. Noah reached for my hand and we started towards his seat at the front row. After settling me in, he took his place beside me, his hands firmly clasped with mine. My heart swelled with joy… I knew every woman in that hall at that moment wanted to be me.
“Thank you all, Parents for gracing our event today and for The Luna and the Lycan King to be in our presence today. Over the last few months, our school has felt the impact from the Office of the Luna and His majesty respectively and we are grateful for that,”.
The hall rippled with clapping.
“Now!” the principal continued “Before we go into everything we have for today, I’d like to make an important announcement,” she paused “I’ve served this school for nearly 35 years of my life and it’s time to say goodbye to it. My daughter recently gave birth and one of my dreams aside from nurturing children is to be a grandmother, now that the moon goddess has given me this opportunity, I’m afraid, it’s times to say goodbye,”.
Sad oohs and aahs filled the hall but I couldn’t care less. I had orchestrated her early retirement. If I was going to be comfortable about the girls being in this school, I needed someone I could trust and the Grand Lycan had assured me, as a member of the board that he’ll look into it.

The hall went silent as everyone stared at themselves. I leaned towards Noah, equally surprised at the announcement. “What’s going on dear?” I asked.
“No idea, but I’m sure there’s an explanation for it,” he said.
“So, you can agree with me that with the size of our children, having more than two principals for both the high school and elementary section is key. Without further ado, permit me to announce she paused and beckoned to someone at the side of the stage. A few minutes later, dressed impeccably – two women strutted and came to stand beside her. My blood ran cold.
