Chapter 250
The next morning, she awoke to find her phone, which had been streaming videos throughout the night, was scorching hot. With a frown, she set her phone aside and noticed a new message from Fred. Anticipating it might concern Kristopher and Cathy, she quickly opened it, only to find a smiling emoji followed by two words: “Happy Birthday!”
Startled, Belinda paused for a moment, then replied to Fred with a resigned tone, “Actually, the birthday on my profile is wrong. It was two days ago. But thanks for the wishes!”
Time passed, and soon Fred sent another message. “Looks like I missed your birthday, so here’s a belated happy birthday wish. However, I’ve got a present for you. It’s not your birthday today, but I’d still like to give it to you.”
Belinda’s brow creased in curiosity as she typed back, “What kind of gift?”
With a smirking emoji, Fred replied, “You’ll see soon enough.”
“Alright then, I’ll thank you now for whatever this birthday surprise is.” After sending her gracious response, Belinda inhaled deeply, rose from her seat, prepared herself, and left for work.
At the office, once she had clocked in, she settled back into her usual editing tasks at her desk. Engrossed in her work, she completely lost track of the hours slipping by.
It wasn’t until Darren came by her desk and reminded her that it was time to go home that Belinda realized she had spent the entire day buried in design drafts.
Stretching and yawning, Belinda gathered her belongings and stepped out of the office, only to receive a call from Madisyn the moment she was free.
“Belinda, guess what just landed in my hands? An invitation from Kristopher’s assistant!”
Belinda furrowed her brows in confusion. Why would Kristopher invite Madisyn? Aside from Belinda, Madisyn had no significant ties to Kristopher. It was logical for Kristopher to invite Belinda to the ceremony… but why also Madisyn?
On the phone, Madisyn sounded clearly upset. “Kristopher must have lost his mind, don’t you think? He’s about to propose to Cathy. Yet now, not only does he want to invite you, his ex-wife, but also me, your close friend? Is he not satisfied until the whole world sees him bask in his joy with Cathy? Doesn’t he realize I have a short fuse? Isn’t he worried I might disrupt his engagement ceremony and stop him from marrying Cathy?”
“Why don’t we both go and find out?” Belinda paused for a moment, taking a deep breath. “Since he’s invited you, and I’m without a date tonight, why not join me?”
“That’s exactly what I was thinking,” Madisyn responded with a laugh on the line. “Belinda, we really are best friends, on the same wavelength! I’ve already picked out my dress. I’m curious to see this elaborate proposal setup Kristopher has been planning for Cathy for over a month!”
Belinda and Madisyn arrived at the Summit Hotel, only to realize that the engagement ceremony was already underway.
The entrance was festively decorated with balloons and flowers, creating a celebratory atmosphere. Yet, something seemed off.
Madisyn’s expression soured as she noticed the message on a bouquet at the entryway. “Happy Birthday!” Her brows knitted in confusion. “This should say ‘Congratulations on your engagement,’ right? Why does it say ‘Happy Birthday’?” She shook her head, dismayed at the apparent oversight. “Kristopher’s team really dropped the ball. How could they mix up such an obvious detail?”
