Aubrey’s POV
“Mariana said that herself?” I frowned.

The handsome beta boy nodded. “Yeah. I was with them that day when we went to the hospital. On the way, Mariana was crying, saying you’d misunderstood her.
“She swore to the Moon Goddess that the wolf poison in the pool wasn’t from her, that she had no idea how it got there.
“And she swore she really was a student of that mysterious wolf doctor–just that even Professor Fray didn’t know about it. At first, people weren’t sure whether to believe her, but she said with absolute confidence that she’d be inviting that wolf doctor to our school soon for a lecture.”
“ That bitch ! ” Ella exploded in my mind, hurling curses rapid–fire.
I almost laughed from sheer disbelief. Not only had Mariana completely washed her hands of the incident, she was now claiming to be my student–and even planning to invite me to the school for a lecture without telling me?
“So you believed her?” I asked, watching the boy.
He scratched his head. “I don’t know. She sounded really convincing. But, Aubrey… if you say she’s lying, I’ll believe you.”
His eyes shone, waiting for my answer.
I didn’t bother explaining. Instead, I decided I’d wait and see exactly who Mariana planned to trot out for that lecture.
The next few days passed peacefully enough. Alpha Henry’s condition remained stable, and Mariana stayed out of my way, no longer pestering me to ask the alpha to restore her rank.
My father came to see me at school once, encouraging me to do well on my exams. From him, I learned Henry had assigned Perry to assist him, which put my mind more at ease.

Before–long, the written exam results were posted. I was, unsurprisingly, first in the entire track.
In fact, my scores in my minor subjects were even better than the majors‘ own top students.
For a time, I was the center of attention–praised as the brilliant omega genius with a terrifying IQ. Most people spoke with admiration; of course, a few seethed with jealousy, resenting that such talent had gone to an omega instead of one of them.
When the school president heard, he called me into his office and offered me a full scholarship. I turned it. down.
“President, I’m not short on money. If you really want to reward me, I’d rather you give omega werewolves in the pack a chance.”
“What do you mean?” he asked, brows lifting.
“You must know that omegas make up at least half the Shadowmoon Pack’s population. But most can only work in low–level jobs. I hope you can offer them opportunities–perhaps a regular omega talent selection,

“That’s enough, Aubrey. We can talk about this later. The scholarship is your reward. Once your research project passes review and you secure your graduate placement, we’ll release it.” His tone cooled, and he waved me out.
I had no choice but to leave, but I wasn’t discouraged. Change never happens with just a few words.
Then my phone rang–Professor Martin.
“Aubrey, why hasn’t your research assignment been turned in yet? You need to hurry–tomorrow’s the deadline! If it’s late, you’ll get a zero, and no matter how well you did on the written exam, you won’t be able to skip into the graduate program. Move quickly!”
My heart lurched. I’d given that research project to Tammy to deliver on the first day of exams.
