But because of Alice’s question, he instantly understood what she had meant earlier.
Maybe some things were personal for Risa.
And those really weren’t things Alice should be meddling in.

Alice nodded. “There’s something I need you to get done.”
“Please go ahead, Mrs. Nolan.”
“I need you to look into the people from Jaxon. Find out who came to the country and which hotel they’re staying at.”
Daniel was more than familiar with that company’s name. “Mrs. Nolan, actually … I already know. That company… it’s connected to Mr. Nolan.”
Alice froze.
Seriously?
Was the universe seriously out to get her?
Her husband was actually her arch enemy?
Daniel looked a little sheepish
“That company took a serious blow from Mr. Nolan back in the day.

“ And it had to do with Mr. Nolan’s unforgettable first love.
“But since things were messy back then and everyone was wearing a mask, no one ever figured out who that girl really was.”
“Oh, I see.”
Daniel cut straight to the point.
“When Mr. Nolan was abroad, he had a friend who had some trouble with someone from Jaxon.
“You know how Mr. Nolan is–he always pays back what’s owed.”
“And what exactly did Mr. Nolan do?”
Alice actually let out a breath of relief. At least they weren’t enemies.
Otherwise, how would she even face him in the future?
They had even shared a bed last night–just the thought of it was enough to make her burn with embarrassment.
Daniel chuckled awkwardly, then went on to explain,
“Well, Jaxon Group had a database.
“Right before Mr. Nolan left, he had someone blow it up.”
Of course, that kind of operation required hiring a lot of hackers.
Back then, Alice had been tied up with other things and didn’t have time to deal with Jaxon herself.
“No wonder.”
“Mrs. Nolan?”
Alice waved a hand dismissively.
“Nothing.”
No wonder Jaxon had left her alone for so long–it was almost as if they’d lost the will to fight.
As it turned out, someone had already taught them a lesson.
Strictly speaking, Eric had unknowingly helped her back then.
“Mrs. Nolan, you seem… kind of pleased. Do you know the people at Jaxon personally?”
Alice’s gaze shifted for a split second. “Nope.”

Daniel tactfully stepped outside, giving Alice the privacy she needed.
Once she picked up, Jack let out a huge sigh of relief.
“There you are. You finally answered!”
Alice cleared her throat.
He sounded so anxious – had something gone wrong?
Then again, knowing Jack, if there really were trouble, he’d have stormed to Nolan Tower by now .
After all, her whereabouts weren’t exactly a secret.
“Dr. Murphy, what’s going on?”

She was putting on a pretty good act, considering she had apparently ignored several of his earlier calls.
Jack’s tone turned vaguely aggrieved.
“Don’t tell me you forgot you still have a lab under my name?”
There was no way Alice could forget about it.
That was her career.
“So it’s finally ready?”
Building a lab wasn’t easy.
Luckily, the hospital had already planned to build one in the back wing.
By the time Alice requested the land, the construction was practically done.
Jack hadn’t wanted to give it to her.
But Julius had insisted, saying no matter what happened, he’d take full responsibility.
As a result, the hospital covered the construction costs , Julius paid for the equipment, and Alice only needed to stop by once the lab was ready to be handed over.
Every time Jack thought about it, his heart ached.
He’d always seen that lab as his baby.
Now, it felt like he was giving his baby away.
When Alice hadn’t given a clear answer after his first few calls, Jack had even considered backing out and reclaiming the lab for himself.
But Julius had been dead serious–constantly urging him to follow through.

Just as she left the IT department, she saw Irene stepping out of the lounge next door.
