“I heard from my colleagues–taking the seal was meant to let Eric officially take over the fashion department.”
He paused, his expression tinged with helplessness.
“Which means we’re looking at a high–value deal. This isn’t something we can handle casily.”
Scott had grown up with Sam. He knew him well enough to sense something was off–and right now, he was stunned.
“Can you, for once, get to the point? Just tell me how we can help her!”
Sam let out a dramatic “Oof” and gave him a look that dripped with sarcasm.
Only then did Scott realize he’d walked straight into Sam’s trap.
His face flushed red with frustration.
Sam burst out laughing.
“You’re really worried about her, aren’t you? If you care, just say so. Why be so awkward about it?”
Scott’s face darkened further.
Back then, he’d only had eyes for Linda–no wonder he hadn’t exactly welcomed Alice, who’d suddenly reappeared.
And he’d done some things he wasn’t proud of.
Now, he honestly didn’t feel like he had the right to face her.
“Just tell me what I can do to fix this.”
Sam clicked his tongue twice. “Never thought I’d live to see you look this humble.”
Afraid of getting kicked, he quickly hopped out of the car.
Then he leaned through the window, his voice dropping low. “It all comes down to Mrs. Irene. If she doesn’t wake up? Case closed–forever. But if she wakes up, it’s all up to what she says.”
Her statement was the key to whether Alice could walk out of that police station free.
Scott got it. He hit the gas and sped off like a rocket.
Sam didn’t dodge in time and got blasted with exhaust fumes.
“So petty.”
He kicked in the direction Scott had driven off and stomped back into the station, grumbling.
As soon as he stepped inside, he spotted the officers who had been interrogating Alice. He smiled and

approached, casually fishing for updates.

“Not much we can do,” one of them replied. “Everything depends on Mrs. Irene’s condition. If she doesn’t wake up in 24 hours, we’ll have to let her go.”
These days, the law favored the presumption of innocence. Even with an accusation, without solid evidence, they couldn’t prosecute.
Sam nodded. “And if Mrs. Irene wakes up and accuses her of robbery?”
The officer sighed. “Then it’s a dead end. We’d follow standard procedure.”
That meant detention, followed by formal charges, then sentencing.
Best–case scenario–out in ten years.
Worst case? She’d spend the rest of her life behind bars.
“What about Mr. Eric?” Sam couldn’t help but worry now, starting to feel that this was incredibly unfair to Alice.
No matter how much she liked Eric–trading her freedom for his approval? That was just too much.
“No word from him.” The officer sighed again. “And Alice is being stubborn. She won’t say a word, which makes the whole process even harder on us.”
Sam scratched the back of his head.
“So unless Irene talks, there’s no other way?”
Whether she got out today or not, if Irene woke up and pointed fingers, Alice would still be buried in legal trouble.
At the Nolan Group, with both Irene and Alice now “out of the picture,” Eric had gone directly to the fashion department.
Using the seal, he quickly obtained full authority and, by that afternoon, had taken over all operations.
At the same time, he received a confidential file.
When Daniel saw what was in the file, the tension in his face finally relaxed.
He let out a breath and patted his chest.
“Mr. Eric, Mrs. Irene should be waking up soon. Should we head to the hospital?”
“No need.”
Eric’s expression remained cold and distant.
His face, as always, seemed shrouded in frost.
“We’re going to the police station.”

Daniel blinked, but then he quickly caught on.
“Right, Mrs. Nolan’s been in there for three hours now. We should check on her before she starts worrying.”
Eric suddenly glanced at him.
Daniel felt a chill and blinked in confusion. “What?”
Then, realization dawned.
“Mrs. Nolan is bold and probably not scared at all.”

Alice sat inside the interrogation room.
She was on her fifth round of officers.
Each one had their own approach–but the questions were all the same.
Alice answered calmly each time.
“I was just following standard company procedures. I didn’t commit a crime, and none of your accusations apply to me.”
Every shift change brought a new face with the same questions, and the same answer.
After that, she would go silent to conserve her strength.
Her unshakable attitude made the interrogation difficult.
The officers had no choice but to call for a break.
That’s when Sam finally got the chance to step in.
“Ms. Spencer,” he said, standing at the doorway, intending to keep it brief.
Alice studied him for a moment before speaking.
“Sam–top graduate of the police academy. You aced both the written and oral exams with the highest scores in precinct history.
“Since then, you’ve worked on 15 criminal cases, handled 78 civil disputes, and have 56 civil cases still pending. As for unresolved criminal cases…”
