She hadn’t expected them to speak up for her at a time like this.
“It’s fine,” Alice said calmly.
But the people around her still refused to move aside.
“Can’t she just give her statement like last time–here in the company building?”
“Yeah, exactly!”
But the officers remained stern.
“If Mrs. Irene’s condition worsens, this may escalate into a criminal case. That means she must come with us first.”
With the growing crowd, one of the officers offered a quick explanation.
Alice understood immediately.
The Nolans‘ faction, led by Matt and Josh, was using this to teach her a lesson.
If Irene remained unconscious, Alice could end up detained indefinitely.
She let out a cold laugh.
“Fine. I’ll go with you.”
The last person who had tried to threaten her with a severe illness was Linda.
Oh, and because of that, Linda had almost not made it through.
But…
Just as Alice was being escorted away, Scott happened to be near the Nolan Group building and spotted her getting into the police car. His expression shifted instantly..
Scott had a decent relationship with a few Nolan Group employees, so he quickly asked one of them. “You didn’t hear?” the employee asked. He glanced toward the police car and pressed his lips together.
Scott asked instinctively, “She committed a crime?”
“Not exactly,” the employee said with a sigh.
“It’s complicated. Our company’s internal politics are kind of messy.”
The employee gave a quick rundown–just the essentials. He explained the tangled feud within the Nolans and how Alice had ended up being the one to stand up and take charge.
Scott frowned as he listened,
When he had picked up Alice before, she hadn’t struck him as the type to cause trouble.

He’d assumed she was just a quiet, obedient girl.
But then he remembered how fiercely she had driven during that race. It made sense now.
He had never really known his sister at all.
“Let’s not get into all that right now–I’ve got something I need to take care of,” Scott said.
Your car’s practically a battle–scarred legend after that race. You placed in the top ranks–it’s getting tons of attention. But give it a few weeks, and the hype’ll die down. Your car’s value will tank with it.”
The employee even tried to stop him.
“Look, that engine you’ve been eyeing? It’s a limited edition. If you keep hesitating, it’ll be gone.”
Scott nodded. “I’ve really got something urgent right now. We’ll talk later.”
Without waiting for a response, he jumped into his car and followed the police vehicle.
Outside the police station, Scott had already called a friend on the inside.
“Sam, tell me what exactly happened to her?”
Sam, the youngest son of the Morants, was Scott’s age. Unlike his siblings, he’d rejected the family business and joined the police force instead.
“You’re asking me this now–as what, exactly? A brother? A concerned citizen?”
Scott froze for a second.
Sam narrowed his sharp eyes. “Didn’t you tell me before that her life or death had nothing to do with you?”
“So, why are you so anxious now that she’s at the station?”
Scott turned away, visibly irritated. “Are you going to tell me or not?”
Sam perked up, clearly enjoying this.
“Come on, Scott. I was at your last race, remember? Got to admit–I really admire your sister’s skills.”
They had grown–up together and liked the same things.
But after becoming a cop, Sam had to lay low. He could only watch races now–competing was off–limits.
In the racing world, drivers like Alice–fearless but precise–were basically worshipped.
At the time, he’d honestly thought Alice was no different from Quantum, the racing legend herself.
Deep down, he felt the Spencers were blind not to see what they had.
If she were his sister, he’d spoil her rotten.

“Still, the fact that she was brought in means there’s definitely a problem,” he added, clapping Scott on the shoulder.
“If you’re really here out of concern, I’ll fill you in. But if you’re just here to mock her, get lost.”
“She might not be my sister, but she’s a citizen of this country–and someone I’m sworn to protect.”
Scott couldn’t take it anymore and smacked Sam lightly on the back of the head.
“Shut up, will you?”
Sam’s eyes gleamed with gossip.-
“Wait, are you seriously worried about her?”
Scott rubbed his temples. “If you don’t get to the point, I’m kicking your ass . ”
Sam grinned.
“I knew it–this girl’s got people wrapped around her finger.”
He organized his thoughts, then gave a short summary.
“It’s pretty simple, really. Alice took Irene’s seal, and Irene fainted from anger.
“Right now, they haven’t determined whether she took it–or stole it.
“Alright, listen up. Let me give you a quick lesson in how the law really works.
“If she just took it–or stole it–without causing any harm, it’s considered theft. Worst–case scenario, she’s out in three years.
“But if it’s considered robbery, that’s a minimum of three years. And it only goes up from there.
“Oh, and…” he lowered his voice dramatically.
