Irene clenched her jaw, trying to sound firm.
“Alice, when you got married, you asked for wedding gifts. That’s a Nolan tradition.
“I’ve shown you plenty of respect.
“If you don’t want to give back to the Nolans, fine. But acting like every little thing is a favor? That’s cold.”
Alice was surprised. “You’re very good at emotional blackmail.”
Irene didn’t reply.
Alice continued, “You gave me that gift just to turn me into your workhorse? Then why not skip the wife part and just hire more servants?
“And you gave the weddings gifts freely–I never forced you. So, Irene, is it possible that you never really wanted to be kind to me?”
Irene was left speechless, stung by the words.
Whitney spoke up quietly, “It’s just talking to your own brother, right:
not that hard.”
Alice smiled.
“You’re so sweet. I’m guessing you’re the kind who would die for everyone. Boo–hoo.”
Whitney had not faced the harsh world, and those words hit her hard. She turned and ran off crying.

“Since the fashion department was handed to us by Jimmy, and since you’re still here, that means it’s still your responsibility.

Alice, still uncertain, asked, “Irene, since you went to all this trouble to call us here, you must really care about Nolan Group. Someone who cared wouldn’t refuse to put up money, right ? ”

Daniel looked innocent. “I just let her play with the snake for a bit.

No wonder Sandy looks so out of it .

“It’s so hard to get a chance to teach her a lesson–someone’s always protecting her.
“They wanted us to fight Mrs. Ruby so they could profit from the fashion department problems, which is why they didn’t stop it earlier.
“So I took the chance to make sure she remembers me forever.”
Alice chuckled. Making sure she remembers him , huh ? That’s interesting .
“Your hobbies are something else,” she said with a sigh.
Daniel chuckled. “Compared to you, I’m a beginner.”
Alice almost facepalmed herself. That doesn’t sound like a compliment .
On the way back, they hit traffic.
Daniel sighed. “Looks like they’re filming ahead. We can’t get through for now . ”
He planned to take a detour, but Alice spotted a nearby café.
“Park the car somewhere. I’m grabbing coffee.”
